On July 3, 2024 an article of Amsterdam Fashion Institute AMFI on topic “Unlocking Transparency: The Rise of Digital Product Passports in Textiles” was published.

The top-management of the “Textile Standard Services” company also took part in this research and preparation of the article.

Technological Integration Challenges Integrating new technologies such as Digital Product Passports (DPP) poses significant challenges. The addition of new traceability technologies into existing systems presents numerous technical and operational hurdles.

Elizaveta Sokolova illustrates how centralised systems, like Uzbekistan’s cluster model, can simplify traceability by reducing variables in the supply chain. “We have everything all in one place, and we can trace it,” she states, showcasing the benefits of centralised production. However, in markets without cluster models, survey responses show that 41% find it moderately to extremely challenging to adapt to various digital systems required by different clients, indicating widespread integration difficulties. Furthermore, decentralisation may enhance supply chain resilience and flexibility, suggesting that while centralisation aids in traceability, it could also heighten vulnerability to localised disruptions, thus affecting the entire production chain adversely.
